The aim of the network for 2014 is to collect and to analyze data on seedling density, height growth and mortality rates of natural regeneration under various gap and shelter conditions as observed in the experiments during a five-year period or more - in order to write a scientific article.

There are differences between the countries

The website and two publications in English below maybe helpful here (if not more confusing... :-)

Pommerening and Murphy (2004): A review on history, definitions and methods of continuous cover forestry with special attention to afforestation and restocking. Forestry 77: 27-44

Wilson (2013): Adoption of alternative silvicultural systems in Great Britain: A review. Quaterly Journal of Forestry, October 2013, p. 279-293.

Sept 23-24 will be a workshop in Umeå on natural regeneration as observed in long-term CCF experiments in Northern Europe. Please, contact Lars Drössler in case you are interedtes to participate!

Apply for the work-shop in September

We are an open network of researchers and work with CCF experiments to analyze data on more regional scale, not only locally. We are most interested in repeated observations of forest growth and regeneration. In addition, recorded storm damages, timber quality, income possibilities and other ecosystem services are our research focus.

Would you like to join the network?
Are you a PhD student in the field of Forest management or biology?

In that case, a PhD course on natural regeneration and Continuous cover forestry in September may be an good opportunity to ask experts from different countries about the alternatives to clearfelling.
